BOLD: These painting were started as live paintings in front of an audience. I took them home and it was evident they weren't actually done. I sat with them a long time but slowly they began to take form, bringing a little more depth and meaning into them.
The titles changed everything for me. Where I was hesitant about them before, immediately they felt complete; audacious serenity, quiet resilience… I finally understood them. As an artist it’s frustrating when something isn’t quit making sense, when there is friction. But, the friction is what makes the completion worth it. It’s like the dissonant chord is music that is followed by the perfect consonant chord; it’s the struggle of a hero that doesn’t make sense before he saves the world.
